A 52-year-old day care worker from Jersey City, New Jersey has been arrested over the alleged abuse of a 9-month-old girl that was formerly in her care.

Diana Camacho was arrested at approximately 4:45 p.m. Tuesday after she turned herself in to authorities, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement released Thursday. She was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Prosecutors accused Camacho of abusing a 9-month old girl that was under her care when she was still an employee at Kiddie Academy of Hoboken, according to the statement.

The day care contacted authorities on December 14, 2020 after hearing of the alleged abuse, WABC reported.

"Any such incidences are not tolerated, and the staff member was terminated from her employment at the Academy," officials of Kiddie Academy were quoted as saying by the station. "We will continue to fully cooperate with local authorities during their ongoing investigation."

No further details have been released by authorities.

A similar incident occured in Windsor, Maine when the owner of a day care was arrested after a 19-month-old baby was found unconscious at the facility in March.

Savannah Brann was charged with aggravated assault, assault on a child less than six years old and endangering the welfare of a child, court documents showed.

The baby, identified as Raegan Blagdon, was found face down and unresponsive during nap time at Lil Beans Daycare.

Blagdon's family said the incident left the baby with a brain injury due to lack of oxygen. The child is now reportedly staying at a recovery center in Boston.

Despite still not being able to regain her sight, the family said Blagdon is slowly regaining strength, learning to eat, crawl and talk again.

An investigation by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services revealed Brann could not get the baby to sleep, so she tightly swaddled her in a blanket and moved her to a separate room away from the other kids. Brann reportedly performed CPR on Blagdon when she returned and found the infant unconcious.
