It’s been a while since the first trailer for “New Mutants” dropped, teasing the upcoming X-Men spin-off film. After some pushback and production troubles, director Josh Boone has announced that a new trailer will be debuting in the New Year.

On the director’s Instagram page, Boone revealed that another trailer for “New Mutants” would be making its debut on Jan. 6, 2020. In the image, you can see the logo for the film’s title with a caption that reads "New trailer supervised by myself, co-writer [Knate Lee] and color corrected by the great [Peter Deming] arrives January 6th. We’re very excited to share it with you! In theaters everywhere April 3rd!”

The movie ended up with multiple delays and reshoots that saw the release date getting pushed back several times. Factors that contributed to those setbacks included the box office failure of “Dark Phoenix” as well as Disney’s acquisition of 20thCentury Fox. Disney has been adamant about the release of “New Mutants” since they bought most of 20th Century Fox and its properties. With Disney Plus and Hulu at their disposal, it seemed like “New Mutants” wouldn’t get a theatrical release and instead be launched on one of the streaming platforms. It now doesn’t seem like that would be the case with Boone stating that the film will be out in theaters in 2020.

“New Mutants” follows a distinct group of powerful teenagers who find themselves imprisoned at a top-secret facility being experimented on for their mutant abilities. This fresh and unique take on the superhero genre mixes some horror elements in the movie that is reminiscent of the classic horror films. The teaser was well received since it was shown to the public. It will be interesting to see how the reshoots play out in the new project when it hits theaters next year.
