KEY POINTS

  • The Fire Staff is great for dealing damage over large areas
  • This weapon type suffers against single targets
  • The Fire Staff is best suited for back-line DPS players

The Fire Staff is the only pure DPS-oriented magic weapon in “New World” so far. Nearly all of the Fire Staff’s skills are designed for dealing continuous damage to multiple targets, making this a great choice for Intelligence-centric builds for Expeditions and large-scale PvP.

This weapon class is a bit hard to pick up at first, especially for players with little to no access to mana potions or other forms of mana recovery. Fire staves do require plenty of mana to use, often requiring players to build specifically for this drawback.

However, the weapon class compensates for its mana-hungry nature by providing excellent AoE damage abilities that deal reliable damage against swarms of enemies. Here’s a guide on how to use the Fire Staff as well as some builds for PvE and PvP.

Fire Staff Tips

Players will want to use the Fire Staff against groups of enemies as much as possible. This weapon class is somewhat bad at dealing single-target DPS because of the way its abilities are balanced, and mana efficiency becomes even more problematic when facing lone enemies.

Light armor is recommended for Fire Staff users since it will boost their damage by roughly 20% while providing a more reliable dodge ability. Pouring points into the Intelligence stat is also recommended to maximize ability damage.

Stay away from enemies to prevent channeled abilities from getting canceled. Don’t forget to use Carnelian gems when doing Expeditions to keep monsters focused on the group’s frontline fighters.

Fire Staff Builds

Here’s a good build for dealing AoE damage in Expeditions:

  • Active Skills
    • Pillar of Fire
    • Meteor Shower
    • Incinerate
  • Passives
    • Arson’s Advantage
    • Judgement of Helios
    • Runes of Helios
    • Spell Focus
    • Flare
    • Clear Casting
    • Pyromania
    • Incinerate

When fully augmented, Pillar of Fire can help with mana regeneration while still providing good AoE damage. Meteor Shower will be the primary damage skill for this build, while Incinerate serves as a self-peel ability that can knock down enemies who get too close, giving players time to escape and lose aggro.

For PvP, consider the following:

  • Active Skills
    • Pillar of Fire
    • Fireball
    • Burnout
  • Passives
    • Arson’s Advantage
    • Catch
    • Spell Focus
    • Fiery Restoration
    • Pyromania
    • Kindle
    • Let It Burn
    • Watch It Burn

This build focuses on applying Burn on enemies while dealing decent burst damage. Burnout is used to escape diving enemies, while the rest of the passives focus on improving burn duration and survivability.
