Week 2 featured an inordinate number of quarterback injuries. While the likes of Baker Mayfield and Derek Carr were able to continue playing after being shaken up, a few other starters are in danger of missing Week 3.

Carson Wentz, Tua Tagovailoa, Tyrod Taylor and Andy Dalton were all sidelined Sunday and didn’t return to their respective games. The injuries could result in multiple rookie quarterbacks making their debuts as NFL starters.

Taylor has the shortest turnaround with the Houston Texans set to host the Carolina Panthers on “Thursday Night Football.” Taylor is officially listed as day-to-day, but NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that a hamstring injury is expected to keep Taylor off the field in Week 3.

Texans head coach David Culley told reporters that Deshaun Watson isn't an option to start for the Texans. That means rookie Davis Mills is in line to get the start. The third-round pick went 8-18 for 102 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Houston’s 31-21 loss against the Cleveland Browns.

Taylor is set to undergo an MRI on his hamstring Monday. Wentz will get an MRI on his injured ankle. Indianapolis’ quarterback is dealing with injuries to both ankles, according to Rapoport, before the upcoming divisional matchup with the Tennessee Titans.

Second-year quarterback Jacob Eason replaced Wentz in Week 2. Eason threw an interception that sealed the victory for the Los Angeles Rams in Indianapolis. Eason’s five pass attempts were his first ever in a regular-season game.

Injuries have plagued Wentz’s career since he tore his ACL in the 2017 season. Wentz underwent foot surgery in August, putting his status for the season opener in jeopardy.

Tagovailoa missed most of Miami’s 35-0 loss against the Buffalo Bills with bruised ribs. X-rays were negative and additional tests didn’t reveal any major issues, according to NFL Network, potentially giving Tagovailoa a chance to start Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Jacoby Brissett threw for just 169 yards on 40 passes and was sacked four times in Tagovailoa’s absence.

Week 3 might be Justin Fields’ time to replace Dalton. Dalton injured his knee in Sunday’s win against the Cincinnati Bengals, though he’s expected to have avoided a serious injury.

Fields has completed eight of 15 passes for 70 yards and an interception in his limited time under center. Dalton is 36-49 for 262 yards, one score and an interception.

The Bears visit Cleveland in Week 3.
