  • Kyle Shanahan dodges questions  about the 49ers' new starting QB questions anew
  • Jimmy Garoppolo could stay with the Niners for the coming NFL season
  • Trey Lance may not be ripe to be San Francisco's main play-caller

The San Francisco 49ers have yet to reveal their starting quarterback plans, and it appears head coach Kyle Shanahan is not about to decide on it.

As of this writing, Jimmy Garoppolo remains a member of the San Francisco 49ers with no NFL team coming forward to trade for the two-time Super Bowl Champion.

Among the reasons behind that is the hefty pay due to the 30-year-old play-caller and the fact that he is coming off shoulder surgery.

It is seen as a dilemma by most, but not in the eyes of the Niners.

San Francisco has options even if most believe that they are leaning towards transitioning to Trey Lance as their main quarterback.

But the big question is whether Lance is ready to step into those big shoes.

It appears that for now, the development of Lance has not gone as planned.

Hence, there is a big possibility that the 49ers will hold off on naming the 21-year-old as their starting quarterback at least for one more NFL season, NBC Sports reported.

“I think Trey will understand all that. I haven’t had to talk to him about it. But I think it makes sense for all these guys. Trey’s not an insecure guy. I think the situation makes sense. There’s nothing sneaky going on about it. And he’s confident,” Shanahan stated.

Given that scenario, Shanahan and general manager John Lynch may opt to keep Garoppolo as both try to resort to the best possible scenario for the NFL team.

It is something that they are dealing with although they are aware that Garoppolo’s recent shoulder surgery somehow alters their expectations this coming NFL season, NBC Sports mentioned in a most recent report.

“The good thing is we don’t have to decide it today. We’re trying to see what the best thing is for the Niners, and having a good quarterback like Jimmy is not a bad thing. Being able to upgrade our roster by getting draft picks is a really good thing. What’s the timeline on that? It’s different when you get surgery. So that’s what we’re all dealing with. That’s really as simple as it is,” Shanahan stated.

From the way Shanahan was explaining things, he does have a plan in mind for the 49ers this season.

So as far as naming a starting quarterback, a question that has been thrown to him since last season.

It comes to no surprise that he has grown tired of addressing it, responding by saying that he may not name a starter at all.
