Jimmy Garoppolo’s situation at Santa Clara could have a new narrative.

Since the San Francisco 49ers’ massive trade deal with the Miami Dolphins last month that saw the Niners getting the No. 3 overall selection at the 2021 NFL Draft, widespread rumors claim that Garoppolo is likely to see himself departing Santa Clara.

It is believed that the 49ers might opt to trade the signal-caller as soon as the team is done selecting their No. 3 pick in the draft.

However, a trade for Garoppolo may not be as easy as it sounds as the Niners’ asking price is still high at the moment, NFL Media's Mike Giardi reported Monday .

The report added that San Francisco would only consider lowering Garoppolo’s price tag if the team manages to secure a top quarterback prospect at No. 3.

“Called around in attempt to reaffirm San Fran’s price on Jimmy Garoppolo remaining a first-rounder,” Giardi tweeted. “I was not dissuaded. League sources say that hasn’t changed. There does remain a belief that ask may change post-draft, once the Niners get the QB at No. 3 in their building.”

As early as now, a handful of teams, including the New England Patriots and the Chicago Bears are already reportedly interested in Garoppolo. However, the 49ers aren’t open to giving it a nod at this point, NBC Sports reported.

The report suggests that the Niners’ high-ups are well aware of the advantages of having several key quarterbacks on the team, and the plan is to make the incoming rookie a suitable backup for Garoppolo next season.

The 49ers are also leaning towards to forming a team that could become serious Super Bowl contenders this offseason and wouldn’t succumb to entrust the team’s season in the hands of a rookie quarterback on a whim.

In the wake of the 49ers’ trade with the Dolphins that started all the rumors circling around Garoppolo, the team’s general manager John Lynch insisted that the 29-year-old quarterback is still part of their plans.

“We also didn’t want to say goodbye to Jimmy [Garoppolo],” Lynch said in a media session. "We’ve shown we can get to a Super Bowl with Jimmy. We can play at a high level. And we don’t think those two things are mutually exclusive, the opportunity to trade up and get a guy who can be a big part of our future and keep Jimmy, who we’re very high on.”
