One of the best defensive free agents at the start of the NFL offseason is still available. Jadeveon Clowney has been unsigned for more than three months, and Week 1 of the 2020 season is scheduled for a little more than two months down the line.

Clowney has been linked to several teams. He’s reportedly turned down multiple offers from the Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans. The Cleveland Browns have reportedly presented Clowney with the highest salary, but the defensive end continues to weigh his options.

On Tuesday, Clowney told ESPN’s Josina Anderson that he hasn’t narrowed down a list of potential destinations, though he does plan on joining a team for the start of the regular season.

Sources have told Cleveland.com that the Browns are believed to have offered Clowney a one-year contract worth around $15 million. At the start of free agency, the veteran was reportedly looking to make at least $20 million a year.

ESPN’s Dianna Russini later reported that Clowney dropped his asking price to $17.5 million per season.

DeMarcus Lawrence is the highest-paid defensive end. He makes $21 million a year, having signed a five-year, $105 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys a year ago.

Kansas City Chiefs’ defensive end Frank Clark is second with a $20.8 million salary. Tre Flowers is third at $18 million a season. Five other defensive ends, including Browns pass rusher Olivier Vernon, make at least $17 million per year.

Cleveland has reportedly engaged in contract talks with Myles Garrett. An extension would likely make the former No.1 overall pick the highest-paid player at his position.

The Houston Texans traded Clowney to Seattle just before the start of the 2019 season. He recorded 31 tackles, 13 quarterback hits and three sacks in 13 games.

Clowney was a Pro Bowl selection each year from 2016-2018.
