KEY POINTS

  • Russell Wilson has named his three ideal trade destinations for next season
  • The Seahawks quarterback has been considering a move to New Orleans since late February
  • Wilson is set to finish with the worst record of his career this season

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is now open to looking for a new home in the NFL, and an insider has named his prospective destinations.

Jordan Schultz reports via Twitter that the longtime Seahawks quarterback would “strongly consider” waiving his no-trade clause for the following teams: New York Giants, Denver Broncos and New Orleans Saints.

The Seahawks have been facing adversity for the better part of this season as they have a record of just four wins and eight losses heading into Week 14.

It was previously reported that Wilson and his agent had just stopped themselves short of asking for a trade in late February but did release names of teams that they would be considering, which also included the Saints.

ESPN Senior NFL insider Adam Schefter first confirmed the rumor that Wilson was not yet asking for a trade then but is open to joining the Saints, Dallas Cowboys, Las Vegas Raiders and Chicago Bears.

The consistent appearance of the Saints in both reports suggests that joining head coach Sean Payton’s team is their most preferred destination as Payton’s work with former Saints quarterback Drew Brees made him one of the most legendary quarterbacks in NFL history.

The 33-year-old Wilson helped guide the Seahawks to a victory against the 6-6 San Francisco 49ers last week, putting up 231 yards through the air on 30 passes, with two touchdowns and an interception.

It snapped a three-game losing streak for the Seahawks who are eight years removed from their last Super Bowl victory and are grasping at straws for some sense of stability.

Larry Brown Sports noted that the Seahawks have never finished worse than 9-7 since they drafted Wilson back in 2012, with this season being the first that it did happen.

Losing recently-signed safety Jamal Adams for the rest of the season due to a torn labrum gives Seahawks fans little reason to be optimistic for the few games remaining on their schedule.

Wilson will once again take the field against the Houston Texans for Week 14 and the Los Angeles Rams the following week before closing out the season against the Chicago Bears in Week 16.

It remains to be seen whether Wilson will stick to his guns and ask for a trade once the Seahawks’ season ends.
