  • Nick Cordero died on Sunday (July 5) following a lengthy battle with coronavirus
  • The actor was only 41
  • Cordero's good friend, Zach Braff, starred with him in "Bullets Over Broadway"

Nick Cordero passed away on Sunday (July 5) following a lengthy battle with the coronavirus. But before his death, he texted close friend Zach Braff with a final message that mentioned his wife Amanda Kloots and son Elvis.

Paying tribute to Cordero, Braff took to Instagram to post a stunning black and white picture of the 41-year-old with Kloots. In his caption for the image, Braff wrote that the last text message that he received from the Broadway star was a request to “look out for his wife and [1-year-old son], Elvis."

"I have honestly never known a kinder person. But [COVID-19] doesn’t care about the purity of your soul, or the goodness in your heart," the actor, who worked with Cordero in “Bullets Over Broadway" in 2014, posted.

Braff continued by saying that he will make sure to fulfill Cordero's final request. "I promise the world they will never want for anything. I feel so incredibly grateful I got to have Nick Cordero enter my life," he wrote.

Cordero met Kloots, a former dancer, when they both joined the cast of “Bullets Over Broadway." They got married in 2017 and welcomed a son, Elvis, in June last year.

Braff told The Hollywood Reporter in April that he had been taking care of Kloots and Elvis, while Cordero remained unconscious at Cedars-Sinai after contracting COVID-19. Cordero and his family were staying at Braff’s guest house while they searched for houses before they move back to Los Angeles.

Since contracting the virus in March, Cordero’s health had gone downhill, with doctors being forced to amputate his right leg due to blood clots. The actor also underwent stem cell treatment to strengthen his lungs.

Talking about how Kloots has handled the situation, Braff said she was amazing and had tried to stay motivated.

“She's amazing,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “She's a motivational trainer, so she's gone into full-on bad-ass crisis dealing mode. If you look at her Instagram, she tells stories about him and she motivates other people — she's literally trying to motivate other people.”

He also revealed that Kloots has a strong support system, which includes the cast of “Rock of Ages,” who take turns to take Elvis out on stroller walks.

Kloots had been regularly updating fans on her husband's condition via Instagram posts, and in one update, she said it was hard on a daily basis as sometimes there's hope and other times there's not as much hope.
