  • Nick Cordero passed away on Sunday (July 5) following complications from the coronavirus
  • The Broadway actor was 41
  • He constantly tested negative for the virus before his tragic death

Broadway actor Nick Cordero had repeatedly tested negative for the coronavirus before he succumbed to complications from the virus on Sunday (July 5).

Cordero’s health struggles started in late March after he suddenly began feeling fatigued, causing him to spend almost a week in bed. On March 26, the Tony Award-nominated actor fainted while changing his 1-year-old son Elvis’ diaper.

He was taken to an urgent-care clinic and was sent home with instructions to return after four days if he did not feel better.

The 41-year-old was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on March 30 with COVID-19-like symptoms, which included labored breathing. During his three-month stay in the hospital, Cordero was placed in a medically induced coma, hooked on to a ventilator and had his right leg amputated due to blood clots. Doctors even put a temporary pacemaker in his chest.

His wife, Amanda Kloots, a celebrity trainer, told The Post in early May that at one point during his hospital stay, Cordero almost died as he had no pulse for two minutes.

In the same month, Cordero underwent a tracheostomy procedure to help remove him from a ventilator. He woke up from the coma on May 12 after suffering two mini-strokes, lung fungus and septic infection.

Although he had tested negative twice for coronavirus, the actor’s health condition did not improve.

In early June, Cordero began undergoing stem-cell treatment to help the functioning of his lungs.

Taking to her Instagram, Kloots revealed at the time that although there were “no guarantees” the treatment would work, she hoped it would “help repair, help strengthen Nick’s lungs and get him better.”

“So finger’s crossed. That’s the news,” she added.

Unfortunately, on July 5, surrounded by Cordero passed away following complications caused by the deadly virus. He was surrounded by his loving family.

“God has another angel in heaven now. My darling husband passed away this morning,” Kloots posted. “I am in disbelief and hurting everywhere. My heart is broken as I cannot imagine our lives without him. Nick was such a bright light. He was everyone’s friend, loved to listen, help and especially talk. He was an incredible actor and musician. He loved his family and loved being a father and husband. Elvis and I will miss him in everything we do, everyday.”

“I will love you forever and always my sweet man,” she concluded her message.

Cordero had no pre-existing health conditions, his wife said in another Instagram post. She added that they did not know how he got COVID-19.

“This disease does not only effect [sic] old people. This is real. A perfectly healthy 41 year old man!” she said.
