“Big Little Lies” star Nicole Kidman recently said that a second season for the hit HBO series is “very up in the air.”

While speaking at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Saturday, July 29, the actress said that it’s highly unlikely for Season 2 to happen anytime soon. But this does not mean that there are no storyline ideas being thrown around. “There’s an abundance of ideas and if we can wrestle them into a script form, then yes. But right now, it’s very up in the air unfortunately, but that’s what it is,” she said (via Entertainment Tonight).

In the series, Kidman played the role of an abused character named Celeste. She and her husband, Perry (Alexander Skarsgard), have been having problems. Whenever the latter is not in a good mood, he would physically hurt his wife. He would feel bad a few hours later and would initiate sex. This toxic routine caught up with Celeste eventually, and she tried to flee from Perry. However, he managed to track her down. In the end, Perry tried to assault Celeste in public, and Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz) came in between them, pushed him down the stairs and killed him.

Meanwhile, Kidman also weighed in on “Big Little Lies” director Jean Marc-Valle’s comments about the series being a one-time deal. Valle said in April that there’s no reason to come up with a second season for the show. “Jean-Marc is strong. The great thing about all of us together is that we have a deep understanding and love for each other because we worked together so intensely. We shared a lot. We’re very connected and that’s a great feeling. It’s hard to find that. When you find it, you want to go back to it and that’s what we had on ‘Big Little Lies’ as well,” she said.

Kidman’s co-star, Reese Witherspoon, also hinted on the possibility of a Season 2 renewal a couple of months ago. However, the actress is now tied to an upcoming project with Jennifer Aniston. As of late, it is still unclear whether or not Witherspoon’s schedule will have conflict with a possible Season 2.
