  • After the launch of Switch Lite, Nintendo has not launch a new console
  • A new report claims that a more powerful Nintendo Switch is coming soon
  • The report also mentions a possible Switch feature that could challenge the PS5 and Xbox Series S

A new and more powerful Nintendo Switch is reportedly arriving next year, according to a new report. The fresh piece of information surfaced following news on Monday that the Japanese gaming giant is planning to release a new version of its hybrid console. Unlike yesterday’s report, the latest information reveals one major feature of the alleged new Nintendo Switch that could challenge the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

The upcoming Nintendo Switch is yet to have its technical specifications finalized. However, it could potentially feature an enhanced computing power and offer support for 4K resolution graphics, reports Takashi Mochizuki of Bloomberg. The debut of the new hardware would be coupled with a list of new first-party titles, the publication adds.

This could explain the prolonged period of low announcements and new releases for Nintendo Switch this year, the report explains. An earlier report seemingly aligns with Bloomberg’s information about a more powerful Nintendo Switch with 4K support. The leak also claimed that the upcoming upgraded hardware would house a custom processor made by Nvidia.

On Monday, the Taipei-based newspaper Economic Daily News revealed that a new Nintendo Switch model would arrive in 2021. It would reportedly feature upgraded interactivity and improved display quality, the publication claimed. The report cited different hardware manufacturers behind the Switch’s Flash storage, jo-Con controllers and more.

A new and optimized Nintendo Switch is a piece of welcome news to fans. However, even if it offers 4K graphics resolution support, it would not be in direct competition with Sony’s PS5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X. Nintendo’s hybrid gaming console offers a handheld experience and a distinct set of games above these two powerhouses in the gaming industry.

In January, Digitimes reported that a new Nintendo Switch hardware would enter into mass production in the first quarter of next year. The rumored upgraded system would reportedly launch soon after. In 2019, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Japanese gaming giant was planning to release a more powerful Nintendo Switch. It claimed that it could have enhanced features for avid gamers.

While these details are exciting, it is worth mentioning that these are not official and still unconfirmed. It is wiser to take this information with a good measure of skepticism.
