Japanese gaming giant Nintendo is reportedly preparing to release a new version of Nintendo Switch in 2021, according to a new report. It was in March 2017 when the company introduced the hybrid console. Since then, rumors have been swirling online that the company is planning to release a Pro version of the console, but the latest reports are unclear if the much-awaited version is really in the works.

A recent report from Economic News Daily picked up by Video Games Chronicle revealed that a new version of Nintendo Switch would enter into production later in 2020. The said console would release sometime in the first quarter of 2021, the report claimed. Leaked by the console’s supply chain sources, the new Nintendo Switch version would reportedly feature improved interactivity and enhanced display quality.

Unfortunately, the report did not reveal details about the power of the upcoming system. It is not clear at this point if the alleged new version of the Nintendo Switch is a Pro-like update with more powerful tech specs. In April, rumors surfaced that a new Nintendo Switch with an entirely different form factor could be in the works.

It started when a new codename was discovered in the 10.0.0 firmware. Additionally, the naming scheme appears to suggest that a new model could be a TV-only device that could be a lot cheaper than the Nintendo Switch Lite model. The Taiwan-based publication Digitimes reported in January that related supply chain sources informed the site that a new Nintendo Switch hardware would enter mass production in the first quarter of 2020.

The said model would launch soon after, according to the site. Whispers online of an enhanced Nintendo Switch version started in 2019. However, it was quashed by the company when it announced that it had no plans to release a new model this year.

Nintendo did not say if it intends to release a new console in 2021, though. If the company eyes to release a new Nintendo Switch next year, a couple of upcoming Nintendo events rumored to take place soon could be the best venue.
