Odessa, Texas -- A woman, who has been charged with her husband's death, claimed she killed the man to protect her kids, an arrest affidavit revealed.

The 37-year-old suspect, identified as Stephanie Tuell, was accused of murdering her 58-year-old husband, Joe Abril, on June 18. When the emergency officers responded to the couple's house in Odessa, Abril was found lying in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and head. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to injuries, Law & Crime reported.

The police took Tuell into custody the same day, following which she reportedly admitted to fatally shooting the husband. "I wish I was sorry, but I’m not," Tuell told the officers, while they were investigating the scene, as reported by OA Online.

After shooting her husband, Tuell had called up the police and reported the incident.

"No one messes with my kids," Tuell allegedly told the officers, suggesting she killed her husband to protect the kids.

The suspect murdered Abril after she found him doing something inside the home, Your Basin reported, citing the arrest affidavit. However, from the arrest affidavit, it is not clear what Tuell found Abril doing.

The investigators have not revealed the details regarding the type of firearm used for the murder. It is also not clear how many kids were inside the house when the incident happened.

Meanwhile, a court has ordered Tuell to be held on a $100,000 surety bond at Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
