  • Ric Flair picks Randy Orton as WWE's current 'number one' guy
  • Randy Orton lost to Edge at WrestleMania 36 last weekend
  • Randy Orton is a 13-time champion in the WWE Company

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) legend Ric Flair has called Randy Ortan the “number one guy” currently in the company ahead of superstars such as Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, Drew McIntyre and The Undertaker to name a few.

Randy Orton, who made his wrestling debut in 2000, was mentored by Ric Flair during his early days in WWE.

Soon after Randy Orton arrived in WWE in 2001, he joined Ric Flair as a team for Evolution, a group that also included Batista and Triple H.

Ahead of WrestleMania 36, Ric Flair spoke to Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT where he said Randy Orton’s feud with Edge was some of the best work the former has done so far in his career.

“Nobody is higher on Randy Orton than I am. I think, right now, he is doing some of the best work he has ever done and I think Edge is too. Randy has done and accomplished so much and he’s been there a long time – people don’t realize this,” 16-time champion Ric Flair added.

According to Ric Flair, the third-generation superstar, Randy Orton is currently at the peak of his career and hence that makes him the number one guy in the company.

“But every time he says something, it’s the truth. And his level of ability right now and his health are both great. He’s at the top of his game, which, in my opinion, makes him the number one guy,” said Ric Flair before he went on to add that despite being in the industry for so long now, Randy Orton only keeps getting better when given a chance and which is why he is an important member in WWE.

"The thing about Randy is, he’s so good that I think just because he’s been there for so long you think ‘gosh, can he get any better?’ and he just continues [to get better] if given the opportunity to shine. But I hope he retires soon so I can get my third ring [laughs]. But he’s a great talent, really, really good and an important part of WWE’s TV,” added Ric Flair.

Unfortunately, the 13-time champion Randy Orton ended up losing to Edge at WrestleMania 36, which took place at WWE's Performance Center and without any live audience due to the coronavirus crisis.
