Oklahoma Woman House-Sitting For Friend Allegedly Mauled To Death By Homeowner's Dogs

A woman who was house-sitting for a friend in Oklahoma has been found dead after a suspected dog attack.

Osage County deputies found the body of 28-year-old Rebecca McCurdy in the home garage Saturday while responding to a welfare check request at the residence located west of Skiatook. Police said McCurdy had temporarily been entrusted with the house and the homeowner's dogs.

Evidence found on the scene suggested that McCurdy had been a victim of a dog attack, investigators said as per Pawhuska Journal-Capital. However, it remains unclear if McCurdy was attacked by one or several dogs.

Police found several pit bulls inside the house. "There were several pit bull dogs caged in the garage. One of the dog cages was toppled over and there were many signs of a dog attack visible," the sheriff's office said.

The homeowner reportedly raised the dogs as a hobby and for business.

The dogs have since been removed from the home by animal welfare. They are currently being held for further investigation.

Deputies are still waiting for the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's Office to disclose McCurdy's official cause of death, reported WPDE.

An obituary said McCurdy "had a warmth and genuine glow about her that was infectious."

"Rebecca always had a smile on her face and brought joy and laughter to those around her," the obituary noted. "She kept everyone on their toes in the best possible way. The void she is leaving behind is vast and wide and our lives will be forever changed without her with us."

McCurdy leaves behind a husband and two young children. A GoFundMe page has been set for her kids.

Earlier this month, a 7-year-old South Carolina boy was mauled to death by a neighbor's dogs while the child was accompanying his brother on a search for their pet pooch. The brother was able to fend off the dogs and run to safety.
