Rather than sharing plans for her 40th birthday on Wednesday, Paris Hilton used the special day to announce her engagement to her boyfriend, entrepreneur Carter Reum.

The couple, who has been dating for over a year, got engaged on Feb. 13 during an early birthday celebration on a private island, People reports.

“This past year with COVID has accelerated so many things. As someone who traveled constantly, I had a chance to stay home and reevaluate what was important to me. My relationship and the time I spent with Carter was a gift,” Hilton told the publication in a statement.

“I’m excited for our next chapter,” she added.

Reum proposed with an emerald-cut diamond engagement ring designed by Jean Dousset, who is the great-grandson of Louis Cartier.

Shannon Delany-Ron, the director of communications of JamesAllen.com, told Page six the diamond “looks to be at least 10 carats, with a price point likely starting at around $1 million.”

However, Hilton is no stranger to extravagant jewelry and a luxurious lifestyle. She reportedly has a net worth of $300 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Many may assume Hilton acquired her wealth from her great-grandfather, who founded the Hilton Hotel chain, but he left 97% of his $4.5 billion fortune to charity, which resulted in members of his family inheriting around $5.6 million each.

Hilton earned her money from a variety of crafts, including modeling, acting, book deals, endorsements, club appearances, fragrances, from which she is paid 20% to 30% of profits, and more.

Although fans are more familiar with Hilton’s business side and the persona she puts on for the press, Reum revealed he fell in love with a side of “The Simple Life” alum that people rarely see.

“I have gotten the unique opportunity to get to know the real Paris on a daily basis, just the two of us during these past 15 months, and I couldn’t be more excited and lucky to have her as my future wife and partner,” he said in a statement.

“She shines with her kindness, work ethic, authenticity, and her voice in making the world a better place, and she will do the same as a future mother and wife.”

Although Hilton and Reum’s family were present for the proposal, more details about the engagement are expected to be shared on her iHeartRadio podcast, “This Is Paris,” which is set to premiere on Monday.
