Three people were killed and 11 were wounded late Saturday after a mass shooting in a popular nightlife area of Philadelphia.

The shooting happened at about 11:30 p.m. on South Street, which had been packed with people.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the three deaths were identified as Kristopher Minners, 22; Alexis Quinn, 27; and Gregory “Japan” Jackson, 34. Two victims died on arrival at the hospital, while the third victim died later.

Three of the 11 wounded were taken for treatment and seven reportedly were in stable condition at a nearby hospital. The wounded victims’ ages ranged from 17 to 69.

At a news conference Sunday, Philadelphia Police Department Inspector D.F. Pace said that patrolling officers spotted multiple people with guns firing shots into a crowd.

One of the officers reportedly shot at one active shooter. Investigators recovered two semi-automatic handguns from the scene “one with an extended magazine” and with “multiple casings throughout this area.”

A vendor near the scene told the Inquirer that he "heard many gunshots. Too many.”

As of Sunday afternoon, there have been no arrests. Police have not identified the gunmen nor a motive for the mass shooting.

Pace noted that due to the many businesses in the area, police can "expect to be able to gather a lot of video surveillance footage."

“We look forward to getting a lot more information on the identity of the individuals responsible for the shootings,” he said.
