KEY POINTS

  • Phoebe Dynevor set the record straight on her "Bridgerton" character's role in Season 3
  • The actress confirmed that Daphne Basset won't be appearing in the new installment
  • Showrunner Jess Brownell previously said they would keep Daphne involved in the series

Phoebe Dynevor has dropped a major spoiler for "Bridgerton" fans ahead of the show's third installment.

In a recent red carpet interview at the Sundance Film Festival, the 27-year-old actress told ScreenRant that her character, Daphne Basset, won't appear in the third season.

"Sadly not in Season 3," Dynevor told the outlet when asked if there would be any exciting dynamics coming up for her role in the new season.

Though Daphne won't be part of the upcoming installment, she did imply that she's coming back to reprise her role eventually.

"Potentially in the future. But Season 3, I'm just excited to watch as a viewer," she said.

Just like in the books it is based on, the "Bridgerton" series will focus on one main love story each season. Daphne's story played out in Season 1.

In Season 2, the show shifted to Viscount Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey). However, Daphne still made appearances as a spectator to his search for a wife.

As previously reported, Season 3 will center on the slow-burn romance between Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) that was featured in the fourth book of the novel series.

Last year, the hit Netflix series' new showrunner Jess Brownell said in an exclusive interview with Variety that they planned to keep tabs on all the Bridgerton siblings, including Daphne, as much as possible.

"We want to keep seeing all of our Bridgerton siblings. We feel like those moments when the whole family is together is what really makes the show and makes all of us, I think, want to be a Bridgerton," she said.

Brownell continued, "So yes, you will definitely be seeing Daphne, Anthony and Kate — how much, I don't want to say quite yet, but you have to tune in."

The showrunner's statement gave hope to fans that they would be seeing Daphne, albeit with much less screen time. Hence, Dynevor's revelation came as a shock.

Netflix did not immediately respond when asked by The Hollywood Reporter for clarification.

"Bridgerton" Season 3 still does not have a release date. But based on the timing of the previous installments' releases, it could arrive on the streamer sometime this 2023.
