A mobile phone exploded in a technician’s face and almost caused a fire in a store in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.

A customer brought the phone to Mohammed Al Harbi’s shop to get the device repaired when the incident took place. Harbi told local media while examining the phone, the device caught fire and exploded in his face. The explosion almost caused a fire in the store.

Video of the incident showed the man examining the phone while holding the device in his hand. He can be seen trying to open the device using an object with a pointed tip. Suddenly, the phone explodes and catches on fire. The man immediately throws the phone to the ground and takes a few steps back. Moments later, he puts off the fire by stamping on it.

Luckily, the man escaped with minor burn injuries and the three customers, who were at the store when the phone exploded, were not injured in the incident.

Harbi told local media there was a problem with the phone’s battery and also warned people against buying fake phone parts.

However, social media users believe the phone exploded after the man used "something with pointed head" to remove the chip.

"I think the reason for the explosion was that he used a needle or something with a pointed head instead of using the original thing to remove the chip," one person wrote in the YouTube comments section.

"It is clear that the shop owner is ignorant of maintenance matters. It is clear that he used the needle because of which it exploded. The issue has nothing to do with the original condition of the phone," another person commented.

In a similar incident last year, a swollen iPhone battery caught fire and exploded near a man's face. Video of the incident showed two men examining the device at the workstation when the phone explodes and bursts into flames on the table. One of them throws the phone to the ground and douses the fire by stamping on it.
