A swollen iPhone battery burst into flames near a man's face as he was working on it at his workstation.

CCTV footage of the incident, posted to Reddit on Saturday, shows two men sitting at the workstation. Suddenly, one of them jumps off his seat as the phone explodes and bursts into flames on the table. He then pushes the phone to the ground and puts off the fire by stamping on it.

"Battery had been replaced by a co-worker who originally owned the phone and he thinks it was faulty equipment. The battery was swelling up when I charged it and he was taking it apart to see what was going on,” the Reddit user explained. Nobody was injured in the incident.

Warning people to not replace faulty batteries themselves, the user added, "It was a third party battery that was faulty so as long as you purchase your batteries from Apple or a trusted seller you should be good.”

The manual that comes with the iPhone also warns users against the same by stating that the battery has “potential for fire or burning. Do not disassemble, puncture, crush, heat or burn. Authorized Service Provider Only."

The incident comes less than a month after an iPhone 6 caught fire in an 11-year-old girl’s hand in California. Recalling the incident, Kayla Ramos said, “I was sitting down, and I had my phone in my hand and then I saw sparks flying everywhere and I just threw it on a blanket.”

Maria Adata, the girl’s mother, shipped the phone to the retailer the following day and said the company was investigating the incident.

“My child could have been caught on fire and she could have been hurt more and I am glad she's ok,” Adata said.
