  • Skylar Astin is joining the cast of “Grey’s Anatomy” this season
  • He will make his debut appearance on the March 24 episode
  • Astin will play a recurring character named Todd Earnes

Skylar Astin will come to the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital later this month.

The 34-year-old actor has been tapped to join the long-running ABC medical series in a recurring role. Astin will make his debut appearance on the show in the March 24 episode of Season 18 titled “Put the Squeeze on Me,” Deadline reported Thursday.

Astin is playing the character of Todd Earnes, described in an official logline as a “charming and handsome” environmental sciences expert with a “gentle soul.”

Earnes will be meeting the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial through his sister, who is a pregnant patient at the hospital. No other details about his story arc were disclosed, but it’s been confirmed that Astin would be appearing this season in a recurring role.

ABC reps were mum when Variety asked if Earnes could be a potential love interest for Camilla Luddington’s Jo Wilson.

The news of Astin’s addition to the cast comes about a week after the show made its midseason return. It also comes after confirmation that this week’s episode would be the last appearance of Richard Flood’s Dr. Cormac Hayes, who was part of the show for three seasons.

Astin first gained attention for playing the role of Georg in the musical “Spring Awakening.” He rose to prominence when he starred as Jesse in the very successful “Pitch Perfect” movie and its sequel “Pitch Perfect 2.”

Though he was not part of the third “Pitch Perfect” film, Astin landed small-screen roles on “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.”

Meanwhile, “Grey’s Anatomy” continues to be one of the top-rated dramas on television, prompting the network to renew it for a 19th season in January.

“‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is a true phenomenon, beloved by audiences around the world. Whether they catch it live on ABC, or stream it on Hulu or globally on Disney+ or Star+, it’s clear that fans can’t get enough of Shonda Rhimes’ brilliant creation,” Walt Disney Television chairman of entertainment Dana Walden told The Hollywood Reporter.

The show stars Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., Kevin McKidd and many more.
