KEY POINTS

  • Arsenal likely to deal away Alexandre Lacazette
  • Lacazette may be part of Thomas Partey deal
  • Lacazette unlikely to dislodge younger Nketiah

Arsenal is slowly getting things together, revealing the coming of new faces and who among their current players they intend to keep. However, that would also include names who may no longer be around after this season. And one name that is being mentioned as likely to be exiting is Alexandre Lacazette.

For those who have followed the Gunners season, most will likely agree that the 29-year-old has hardly performed up to par. That alone is a red flag that he may either be sold or given his walking papers after this season. Clubs are trying to deal with the financial crunch caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and there will be casualties this summer.

In a previous post, it was mentioned that there is a chance that the French player could still be given a contract. The best to expect is a short-term deal although he will unlikely be part of the starting team. In that same report, it was also stated that his fate could hinge on whatever happens to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Mikel Arteta has already spoken on the status of the Gabon national and the belief is that a deal will be done soon. Once that is settled, Lacazette is next on tap.

Unfortunately for the French football player, the future is not looking so bright. In a report from the Telegraph, it was mentioned how Lacazette is more likely to be sold this summer. And if that does materialize, it may not come as a surprise. Aside from his poor showing this season, the 29-year-old finds himself playing behind Eddie Nketiah. His return from Leeds United has added to the woes of Lacazette. Though both are still jockeying for the same position, it appears the 21-year-old holds the advantage.

Aside from that, Arteta is determined to infuse younger but promising players. Among those in waiting is Jonathan David. Like other prospects, the Gent football player is keeping tabs on player movement to see if they will have a place with the Gunners.

As for Lacazette, it appears he could be sent off as part of a package to Atletico Madrid for Thomas Partey. Inter Milan is another club that at some point was interested in the French football player. A reason seen behind this is the possible exit of Lautaro Martinez who is reportedly a target of FC Barcelona.
