  • Lampard trying to work around depleted roster
  • Chelsea in a deep hole against Liverpool
  • Young players could be called upon by Lampard

Chelsea is faced with a big problem with plenty of stars dealing with injuries. Among those who are out include Christian Pulisic, Tammy Abraham and N'Golo Kante. Making matters worse was the suspension handed to Jorginho after picking up his 10th yellow card against Bournemouth. He will miss three of the Blues' next four games.

A consolation could come in the form of Callum Hudson-Odoi who could be good to go this coming weekend. But he needs to find alternatives to try and work around the problem. Among his options include young promising players like Ross Barkley, Mason Mount, and Billy Gilmour. Lampard is not discounting giving other players an opportunity as well, Goal.com reported.

One player who could get in is Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The midfielder is coming off a calf-injury weeks ago that prevented him to see action in the Under-23s. However, the 41-year-old manager made it clear that he wants to see Loftus-Cheek complete a whole game first.

"It wouldn’t be fair on him to bring him on for 15 minutes and it probably wouldn’t be the right thing for the team at the moment. Once he shows he can go through a game, he will probably be back in."

Up next for the Blues will be Liverpool. With an undermanned lineup, there is no denying that Chelsea will be the underdog in that FA Cup match. Lampard is left with limited options of trying to win a trophy. Picking the right players won't be plainly to field a team. The Blues manager still intends to come up with a right optimized mix to make sure that the game remains competitive and meets Premier League standard.

"Our fans want us to overturn the best team in the land, it doesn’t mean I don’t change a couple of people, fresh legs or a couple of different options but I won’t pick a team casually and be giving minutes," Lampard said.

The injury woes of Chelsea is just part of a long list of problems Lampard is facing. There is the issue of Kepa Arrzabalag who remains in the sidelines. Willy Caballero continues to be the team's starting goalkeeper, spurring potential Kepa departure rumors. Lampard reiterated that there is no truth to that and the world's most expensive goalkeeper remains with the Blues.
