KEY POINTS

  • Atletico seeking £130 Million fee to release Niguez
  • Manchester United loses another prospect
  • Red Devils options getting smaller

Manchester United has its eyes set on Atletico Madrid defender Saul Niguez but it will take a record sum to get it done. Los Colchoneros has no interest in dealing away the midfielder unless the Red Devils are willing to shell out a record sum of £130 million.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly keen on acquiring the 25-year-old Spanish footballer, someone who intends to partner with Bruno Fernandes. He could also be insurance if Paul Pogba does leave United. But those dreams of brining in Niguez are not looking that good with Atletico firm on its asking price of £130 million, Marca reported.

Given that most teams are expected to tighten up their belts if and when football season does resume, Atletico's demand practically snuffs any hope of seeing Niguez heading to Old Trafford. This is despite previous claims that the team could be willing to part with the Spanish footballer for a smaller sum of £70 million - especially if they do not qualify for next season's Champions League.

As things stand now, it is not looking good for coach Diego Simone. Atletico is outside La Liga's top four and if the season should be scrapped, they won't have any chance to qualify with only the top four making it, AS reported.

And while it made sense for Atletico to consider dealing away Niguez for a smaller sum with their finances expected to take a hit, that does not seem to be the case. Hence, Manchester may have to look for someone else, a player that won't burden them financially.

Niguez becomes the latest player likely lost for the Red Devils. In a previous post, it was mentioned how top players like Harry Kane and James Maddison were likely off the table. Similar to Niguez, the two carried hefty bounty's on their head of not less than £100 million.

The only notable names remaining on Solskjaer's wish list are Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish. But like Niguez, it won't be surprising if the current teams of both players will ask for a ridiculous amount before letting them go.
