Prince Charles was rejected twice before he met Princess Diana.

Prior to marrying Princess Diana, Prince Charles was romantically involved in a string of woman. According to Katie Harris, a journalist for Express, the Prince of Wales proposed to Anna Wallace twice, but the future king was rejected both times.

Anna, the daughter of a Scottish landowner had hunting skills and a fiery personality that she was branded “Whiplash Wallace.” Anna reportedly dumped the heir in 1980 after the Queen Mother’s 80th birthday party at Windsor Castle due to the way he treated her.

Anna felt that Prince Charles was ignoring her during the ball. She was overheard telling Prince Charles how disappointed she was after the event.

“I have never been so badly treated in my life,” she told Prince Charles. “You’ve left me all alone all evening and now you will have to continue without me.”

Anna went on to marry entrepreneur Johnny Hesketh. On the other hand, Prince Charles met Princess Diana and married her. Anna and Prince Charles’ marriages both ended in divorce.

Aside from Anna, Prince Charles also dated Lady Jane Wellesley before he met the People’s Princess. Many deemed Lady Jane as the prime candidate to be Prince Charles’ wife. However, she backed out when she learned about Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles’ relationship.

Royal biographer Christopher Wilson said that any woman wanted to be seen on the arm of the Prince of Wales. However, Lady Jane realized that Prince Charles was in love with another woman. She saw Camilla’s shadow early on and refused to stay. Prince Charles and Lady Jane’s romance ended in 1974.

The Prince of Wales went on with his life and met Princess Diana. The late Princess of Wales caught Prince Charles’ eye at a friend’s barbecue party in the autumn of 1980. At the time, Prince Charles had been paired off with Princess Diana’s older sister Sarah. The royal prince noticed Princess Diana’s being “lissome and gamine.”

Prince Charles and Princess Diana married, but their relationship ended in a divorce. Robert Lacey, another royal biographer, blamed Prince Charles for their failed marriage because he was “already committed emotionally to another woman” and it was Camilla.
