Prince Charles was reportedly perplexed by Princess Diana after Prince Willam’s birth.

The Prince and Princess of Wales had a grand royal wedding. However, author Katy Holborn wrote in her book, “Princess Diana: The True Story of the People,” that the couple “began to grow apart very quickly” due to their differences.

Princess Diana was interested in fashion, style and everyday subjects. On the other hand, Prince Charles preferred history and architecture. In short, "there was little in common" between the two.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s circumstances partly changed following Prince William’s arrival. The People’s Princess had a difficult pregnancy and was very sick while she was carrying their firstborn.

“There were days when she was so ill that she could not get out of her bed,” Holborn wrote, adding that Prince Charles found it very hard to cope with her condition.

“[Prince Charles'] upbringing had involved much more ‘manning up’ and his, at times, fragile wife perplexed him,” the royal biographer continued.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were living between Kensington Palace, their home in London and in their country retreat in Highgrove House. One time, Princess Diana had a bad fall while staying in Sandringham.

Princess Diana suffered bad bruising, but her child was unhurt. Queen Elizabeth II was sympathetic and understanding towards her daughter-in-law. Her Majesty decided to reduce Princess Diana’s official engagements, but Prince Charles “found it harder to cope.“

“Having been brought up very much in the style of ‘Get on with it’ he could not understand the issues his wife was facing,” the biographer added.

Prince Charles reportedly rekindled his romance with Camilla Parker Bowles while he was married to Princess Diana. Author Simone Simmons claimed in her book ,“Diana: The Last Word,” that Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom felt “like being punched in the stomach” after the discovery.

Princess Diana reportedly confronted Prince Charles about his affair, but he was “tongue-tied.” However, the future king neither denied nor confirmed his affair with Camilla.

In related news, Camilla just wore Princess Diana’s 150-year-old pendant at Prince Charles’ investiture. The priceless heirloom was originally owned by Queen Alexandra and was passed down to Queen Mary and then to Princess Diana. It was returned to Queen Elizabeth II following Princess Diana’s death and was handed down to Camilla.
