Camilla Parker-Bowles wore an accessory that Princess Diana once favored at Prince Charles’ investiture.

On Tuesday, the Duchess of Cornwall joined Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and the rest of the members of the royal family to celebrate the Prince of Wales’ investiture. In the photo shared by Daily Mail, Camilla paid tribute to her predecessors by wearing an antique emerald and diamond brooch.

The priceless heirloom is already over 150 years old. It features a cabochon teardrop emerald pendant dangling from an oval of diamonds with three-feathered insignia of the Prince of Wales inside. It was the perfect accessory for Camilla’s bottle green Bruce Oldfield dress.

The item was handed down to Queen Mary following Queen Alexandra’s death. It was subsequently passed down to Princess Diana when she married Prince Charles in 1981.

The late Princess of Wales was seen wearing it as a pendant to her necklace. Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom used it in an evening gala in 1986 with a pair of matching emerald earrings.

The piece was handed back to Queen Elizabeth II following Princess Diana’s death in 1997. Technically, the item is considered the Queen’s property, so it has been handed down to Camilla.

The Duchess of Cornwall has been seen using it several times. She was first seen using it at a London film premiere in 2006. She used it again at the Cheltenham Festival in 2012.

Prince Charles and Camilla dated before they married their first spouses, Princess Diana and Andrew Parker Bowles, respectively. They rekindled their romance while he was still married to the Princess of Wales.

According to Simone Simmons in her book “Diana: The Last Word,” Princess Diana felt like she was “being punched in the stomach” when she discovered that her husband was having an affair with Camilla.

Princess Diana confronted Prince Charles, but he was “tongue-tied.” The Prince of Wales married Camilla eight years after Princess Diana’s death.

If Prince Charles dies before Queen Elizabeth II, Camilla will remain to be the Dowager Duchess of Cornwall. She will live in a royal accommodation as courtesy and will be a “wealthy widow“ because she will inherit much of Prince Charles’ wealth.
