Prince Harry recalled his mom Princess Diana's death in the emotional message he wrote as part of a book for children and young people whose loved ones died from COVID-19.

The Duke of Sussex remembered his mom in his moving foreword for Chris Connaughton's book, "Hospital by the Hill." He reflected on his own experience as a child when he "didn't want to believe" or accept the fact that his mother had passed away and how the pain "left a huge hole" inside of him.

"If you are reading this book, it’s because you’ve lost your parent or a loved one, and while I wish I was able to hug you right now, I hope this story is able to provide you comfort in knowing that you’re not alone," Prince Harry wrote, as quoted by Entertainment Tonight. "When I was a young boy I lost my mum. At the time I didn’t want to believe it or accept it, and it left a huge hole inside of me."

"I know how you feel, and I want to assure you that over time that hole will be filled with so much love and support. I know how you feel, and I want to assure you that over time that hole will be filled with so much love and support," he continued.

The duke added that while he had never met the person readers were mourning, he assured them he knew they were "special" to them. He went on to give some words of encouragement, writing, "You may feel alone, you may feel sad, you may feel angry, you may feel bad. This feeling will pass."

"And I will make a promise to you – you will feel better and stronger once you are ready to talk about how it makes you feel. I hope this book helps remind you of just how special your parent or loved one was. And how special you are too," he concluded.

"Hospital by the Hill," illustrated by Fay Troote, is a story about a young person coming to terms with the loss of their mother who had been working on the frontline during the pandemic at a hospital. It is being given for free to children and young people in the U.K. who have been affected by the pandemic in the same way.

In Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier this month, the duke revealed that their departure from the royal family and move to the U.S. wouldn't have been possible without the help of his late mother.

Prince Harry admitted that the royal family cut him off financially after he decided to step back from his royal duties. But he, his wife and son Archie were able to make it thanks to the $13 million he inherited from Princess Diana. Prince William's brother felt that his mom knew what was in the cards for him.

"I have what my mum left me and without that, we wouldn’t have been able to do this," Prince Harry said. "It’s like she saw it coming and she’s been with us through this whole process."
