Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II are still together in Scotland.

The royal family usually unite for the holidays. Prince Charles, Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and the rest of the members of the royal family were seen at the Queen’s Sandringham House celebrating Christmas together. However, the Duke of Edinburgh was never spotted at the festivities this year.

The 97-year-old royal skipped the family’s traditional annual Christmas Day service. Many noticed Prince Philip’s absence since he always seems to miss most of his family’s public outings recently.

However, according to Daily Mail royal correspondent Rebecca English, there is nothing to worry about the royal’s health. Prince Philip didn’t join the other members of the royal family to church but Buckingham Palace confirmed that there was no cause for concern. The duke wasn’t sick; he just retired from public life and he prefers spending the day privately with his family.

According to Amani Hughes, a journalist for Express, it is likely that Prince Philip is still in Sandringham with the Queen. Queen Elizabeth II only returns to the palace after Feb. 6, her father’s death anniversary. Prince Philip could even stay longer in Scotland.

An insider said that Prince Philip spends most of his time at Wood Farm. He reportedly likes the place because it is away from the public eye and it’s very peaceful.

Although the Duke of Edinburgh and the monarch spend most of their time in separate homes, they still make time to see each other. The Queen works around her schedule to see her husband as often as possible.

Prince Philip has opted to live a life away from the spotlight following his retirement. Aside from skipping the royals’ annual Christmas walk, he also didn’t attend Sunday’s Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph for the first time. In 2017, Prince Philip also skipped a service in Whitehall.

Despite Prince Philip’s absence from his family’s public outings, he is in perfect condition. In fact, he has been horse riding from time to time. Back in November, the duke was also photographed in a carriage in the grounds of Windsor Castle. He was accompanied by two stablewomen who sat behind him at the time.
