Queen Elizabeth II was reportedly impressed when she met Prince Philip for the first time.

According to royal author Philip Dampier in a 2014 documentary “The Majestic Life of Queen Elizabeth II,” it was a love at first sight for the monarch. Robert Lacy, historian and biographer, also shared his thoughts when the spark between the couple struck.

“One of the most extraordinary things about the Queen is that she fell in love and married just about the first man she met,” Lacey said.

He added that it was a slight exaggeration but the Prince of Greece was a dashing naval cadet at Dartmouth Naval college at that time. The two already met before that at a family occasion.

However, it was during their encounter on the tennis court in the summer of 1939 when the romance sprang out. King George VI and Queen Elizabeth visited the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, Devon with their two daughters Queen Elizabeth II and. Princess Margaret.

On that meeting, 18-year-old Prince Philip was introduced to 13-year-old Queen Elizabeth II. Two of the other cadets had contracted mumps and were not allowed to meet the royals. Royals experts agree that Prince Philip was handsome and dashing on the said encounter.

“She actually thought this man is wonderful, you know as a 13-years-old could think,” Majesty Magazine editor Ingrid Seward said.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip are distant cousins. They have been married for 71 years already. The couple is currently spending most of their times in separate homes following Prince Philip’s retirement. The Duke of Edinburgh spends most of his time in Wood Farm. According to the insider, the 97-year-old royal enjoys the place because it is away from the public eye and peaceful.

In related news, Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II have an odd arrangement when they travel. Unlike most couples who want to share beds, the royals never did this for some reasons.

According to Brian Hoey in his book “Not in Front of the Corgis,” when the two travels on the Royal Yacht Britannia they have separate beds because they have different bedding preferences. The Queen wants a longer turn-back on her sheets and blankets and lace trimming on her pillowcases. Also, Prince Philip is an early riser and doesn’t want to disturb his wife in the morning.
