Prince Philip was very bossy to his wife Queen Elizabeth II.

In the 1940s, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh lived in Malta as Prince Philip was stationed in the island as a naval officer. When they were still living there, Queen Elizabeth II was able to lead a normal life. The monarch was reportedly immersed in shopping, sightseeing, gossiping and dancing the samba. It was the “happiest days” for Her Majesty.

However, in the 2014 documentary “The Majestic Life of Queen Elizabeth II,” it was revealed that Prince Philip was caught swearing at the Queen. According to Maltese journalist John Mizzi, Queen Elizabeth II was officially the boss in public, but in private Prince Philip “ran the show.”

“He seemed to boss her around most of the time,” Mizzi said. “I shouldn’t say this perhaps, I heard him swearing at her.”

However, writer and broadcaster Hug Vickers and royal correspondent Camilla Tominey have another take on this matter. They believe that the Queen actually loved to hear from Prince Philip. She liked how her husband would tell her off.

Vickers said that the couple is a perfect match. Prince Philip is the only person who can straightforwardly tell the Queen if something is not going well. He can talk directly to the monarch and he does that.

Tominey agreed and noted that Prince Philip was a “refreshing change for the Queen.”

“I think the Queen herself would be the first one to admit that Prince Philip isn’t somebody who minces his words, who has an opinion on everything and doesn’t mind expressing it,” the expert commented.

Queen Elizabeth II is surrounded by a lot of men who often agree to her and it’s helpful to have one who is honest and who is not afraid to tell the Queen what he actually thinks of her work.

Tominey added that Prince Philip wears the trousers behind palace doors and it’s not surprising because he is the head of the family. She also pointed out the positive changes that the duke did in Buckingham Palace.

Meanwhile, although she submits to her husband, Queen Elizabeth II remains a strong partner. One time, she let rip at Prince Philip for being late during a picnic.
