Prince Philip and Prince Charles are very different from each other.

A number of insiders claimed that the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Edinburgh have a difficult father and son relationship. Prince Charles was not close to his mom, Queen Elizabeth II, and dad, Prince Philip.

While speaking with Gyles Brandreth in 2016, the 97-year-old royal revealed that he and Prince Charles are very different individuals in terms of how they see things. This could have contributed to their strained relationship.

“Charles is a romantic, and I’m a pragmatist,” Prince Philip confessed. “That means we do see things differently. And because I don’t see things as a romantic would, I’m unfeeling.”

At one point, Prince Philip and Queen Mother reportedly argued over Prince Prince Charles. The Duke of Edinburgh wanted to send Prince Charles to Gordonstoun, his old school in Scotland, to toughen up his son. However, Prince Charles’ grandmother didn’t agree. She felt that Prince Philip only bullied his son and failed to appreciate Prince Charles’ sensitive personality.

Prince Philip, however, went on to send Prince Charles to Gordonstoun, but the latter hated it very much. The future king would escape from his classes to stay with the Queen Mother and would often beg her to take him out of school.

In addition, it was Prince Philip who gave Prince Charles an ultimatum to propose to Princess Diana. The Prince of Wales wasn’t really sure about the People’s Princess, but his father wanted him to marry her before her reputation was ruined because she grew anxious about Camilla Parker Bowles’ presence in Prince Charles’ life.

Prince Charles popped the big question to the Princess of Wales. However, in a letter addressed to a friend, he admitted that he was “terrified of making a promise and living to regret it.” Prince Charles and Princess Diana had a fairytale wedding, but their marriage was very different. They divorced after 11 years.

According to the late Princess of Wales, Prince Philip encouraged his son to proceed to marrying her because he could get back with Camilla if his marriage with Princess Diana doesn’t work after five years. Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom already knew something about it and only confirmed it when it indeed happened.
