Prince William is taking his Earthshot Prize to the U.S.

On Wednesday, Prince William and Kate Middleton announced in a video posted on Twitter that they will be in Boston, Massachusetts, in December for the second Earthshot Prize awards ceremony.

"In 2022, we're back and bringing Earthshot to the USA where we'll award the next five winners of the Prize," the Duke of Cambridge, who created the global environment awards in 2020, said in the video.

The clip then showed Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts standing in the outfield of the home of the iconic baseball team at Fenway Park, saying, "And we will be doing it right here in Boston."

During their upcoming visit, the royal couple will also spotlight and celebrate the "inspiring" city for their work on addressing the impacts of climate change and building a resilient future, they said in a statement.

Royal fans and social media users took to Twitter to express their excitement over the news that Prince William and Middleton are coming to the U.S. and to praise the duke for his efforts to help protect the environment.

"I am so grateful somebody on your platform takes this bloody seriously, manages to observe the situation from many angles and shows us optimism, joy and a way through," one person tweeted.

"Brilliant! It's about time people paid attention to our world. It's fragile. The last couple of days showed us soaring heat and wildfires all around the world so help it stop destroying our planet," another added.

Prince William first announced that the second Earthshot Prize awards ceremony will be held in the U.S. back in October 2021 after the inaugural ceremony in London.

"For the second year, we need to pass the baton to a country whose leadership is essential for all five of our Earthshots," Prince William said at the time.

"Where better than the nation that inspired the Moonshot all those years ago," he added, referring to his inspiration for the prize – President John F. Kennedy's shooting for the moon in the 1960s. "I'm delighted to announce that the Earthshot Prize will be heading to the United States of America in 2022."

Middleton and Prince William's upcoming trip to Boston will be their third visit to the U.S. together. The couple traveled to California after their tour of Canada in 2011, just a few months after their royal wedding, People reported.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived at Los Angeles International Airport on July 8, 2011. They attended Variety's Venture Capital and New Media Summit at The Beverly Hills Hilton hotel as well as a private reception at the British Consul-General's residence. Prince William also participated in a charity polo match at the Santa Barbara Polo Club.

Prince William and Middleton returned in December 2014 and visited New York City, where the duchess teamed up with former Mayor Bill de Blasio's wife Chirlane McCray for a visit to the Northside Center for Child Development. At the time, the couple also met Hillary Clinton and Chelsea Clinton at the British Consul General's Residence.
