Prince’s ex-fiancée, Sheila Escovedo, is determined to find out the cause of the legendary singer’s death. The star reportedly suffered with the flu several weeks before his death, but Shelia E., as she is better known, doesn’t think that’s how he died. She’s flying to his home in Minnesota to find out the truth, she told TMZ at Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday.

Even though she’s his ex, Shelia E. remained close with Prince. She told TMZ she was “not too good” when asked how she was holding up. She asked for fans to “keep saying prayers for the family.”

One thing she wasn’t sure of was that Prince died from the flu. “Everyone gets sick once in awhile. We don’t know. We’re going to find out,” she said about going to Minnesota.

“The meaning of the word loss has taken on new meaning this day,” Shelia E. told Us Weekly in a statement. “Thank God, love lives forever.” She added on Twitter: “My heart is broken. There are no words. I love you!”

Shelia E. described her relationship with Prince in her 2014 memoir, “The Beat Of My Own Drum.” “He blew me a kiss, turned to the audience and took the most amazing guitar solo ever,” she said about of the moment he mouthed “Marry me?” onstage. “For the rest of that year my relationship with Prince was a dream.”

There’s one rumor that Prince might have died of a drug overdose because he was supposedly treated for one six says before his death. But Shelia E. didn’t know anything about it, TMZ wrote. That coincides with the same day Prince’s plane had an emergency landing. At the time, his reps said he was battling the flu.

Prince was 57. He was best known for hits like “Little Red Corvette,” “Kiss,” “1999,” “When Doves Cry” and “Purple Rain.”
