Princess Diana was reportedly already “fatally damaged” even before she met Prince Charles.

The Prince and Princess of Wales had a fairytale wedding. Unfortunately, their union was very different. They had an unhappy marriage.

According to royal author Penny Junor in her 2005 book “The Firm,” Princess Diana was too young and unprepared for the royal life that awaited her. Also, she went through too much pain due to rejection and her parent’s separation.

“At 19, she was little more than a child when she first arrived, totally unprepared fro the life that lay ahead and completely out of her depth,” Junor wrote. “She was a romantic, an innocent, she knew nothing of life or work or relationships. The things she knew about were loss and rejection, the product of her parents divorce; and she had been fatally damaged by the experience.”

Junor added that Princess Diana had no self-confidence and stability. She had a desperate need to be loved and wanted and a determination to get what she wanted.

Prince Charles former secretary Michael Colborne was convinced that if Lord Mountbatten had still been alive and was not murdered by IRA in 1979, Prince Charles would have not married Princess Diana. He was like a father to the future king and he would have seen that Princess Diana was not the right person for him.

Days before Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s royal wedding, the heir apparent reportedly put his then bride-to-be in a “terrible state.” Princess Diana wasn’t happy when she found out a package on the desk of Prince Charles’ secretary for Camilla Parker Bowles.

Princess Diana insisted to see what was inside and opened it. She found a gold bracelet engraved with the letters G and F. Those were the initials of Prince Charles and Camilla’s nickname for each other – Gladys and Fred. Prince Diana wasn’t happy after the discovery.

According to Christopher Wilson on Channel 5’s documentary “Charles and Di: The Truth Behind Their Wedding,” she was “absolutely in tears” after finding Prince Charles’ farewell present to Camilla.

Princess Diana also confessed that they had a “terrible row” days before their wedding. She didn’t share the details but said that it happened after Prince Charles’ stag party.
