Princess Diana and Camilla Parker Bowles started out as friends before eventually becoming rivals for the love of Prince Charles.

The late Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are known rivals when it comes to Prince Charles’ affections. However, prior to that, they reportedly had a good relationship with each other.

Princess Diana and Prince Charles would often visit Camilla and her husband, Andrew Parker Bowles, at their home in Bolehyde Manor in Wiltshire. Princess Diana and Camilla enjoyed each other's company, and the Princess of Wales would even help Camilla with her young children, Tom and Laura, Popsugar contributor June Woolerton wrote.

Looking after kids was not unfamiliar to the late People’s Princess even during that time. She used to lived a very quiet and private life even though she was an aristocrat. In fact, she once worked as a nanny and was paid $5 an hour.

When Prince Charles and Princess Diana announced their engagement, Camilla even invited her over for lunch where the two women enjoyed a gossip-filled meal. However, Princess Diana later realized that their meeting was not innocent.

Princess Diana reportedly became distrustful of Camilla when she learned that she and Prince Charles had a relationship. Camilla attended the Prince and Princess of Wales' wedding and stayed away from events where the couple would attend. Princess Diana and Camilla had little contact after she married Prince Charles, but the report noted that she was convinced the two were seeing each other again.

According to Jessica Jayne’s explosive tell-all book “The Duchess of Cornwall: Camilla’s Story and Secrets,” Princess Diana and Camilla had a furious confrontation about her affair with Prince Charles. At one event that the trio attended, the People’s Princess noticed that Prince Charles and Camilla suddenly disappeared. She looked for them and found them sharing a private conversation with another male friend downstairs.

Princess Diana asked the two gentlemen to have a quick word with Camilla. They went upstairs like "chickens with no heads."

Princess Diana blamed Prince Charles and Camilla’s affair for their failed marriage. She cited a number of incidents when Camilla broke her heart.

According to Princess Diana, Camilla ruined her honeymoon with Prince Charles when she sent him cufflinks with two C’s entwined. She confronted Prince Charles and asked if it was from Camilla. The heir confirmed that it was, but insisted that it should not be a problem as it was from a friend.

Princess Diana also said that when she was photographed crying when Prince Charles left for a five-week royal tour months before their wedding, it had been because of Camilla. The Duchess of Cornwall called Prince Charles before his departure and Princess Diana wanted to be nice so she left them on the phone, but this moment had apparently broken her heart.
