Princess Margaret’s fashion was widely talked about decades ago. But there is one member of the royal family who isn’t a fan of her style.

In the book “Norman Hartnell: The Biography,” royal author Michael Pick revealed that Princess Margaret’s clothes caused tension in the palace in 1948.

Queen Elizabeth II’s younger sister was previously photographed in a Dior white tulle evening dress that featured a plunging neckline. But prior to attending the event, the Queen Mother talked her youngest daughter out of wearing the dress.

“Clearly Princess Margaret and her fashion sense were big news from which Norman could profit as her clothes were widely discussed,” he said.

At the age of 21, Princess Margaret posed in her Dior ballgown and she instantly became a muse to the fashion world. The late royal was known for her love of partying, socializing, and more, which made her very different from her much responsible older sister, the Queen.

Princess Margaret was also dubbed as someone who was unlucky with love because she wasn’t allowed to marry the love of her life. In the end, she married someone else but their union didn’t last very long either.

Her Majesty’s younger sister died in 2002 and the Queen Mother, who was already frail at that time, tried her best to attend her funeral. According to the Daily Mail, the Queen Mother saw her youngest daughter’s death as a merciful release. After all, she was already very sick and was oftentimes sedated. The Queen was also heartbroken over the death of her sister.

“Consumed by grief at the loss a sister on whom she depended, [she] was accompanied only by police bodyguard as she went to church in Windsor. She had epitomized style and glamour in her younger years but was viewed less favorably as the age of deference passed. It was clear that the death of the Princess who tried to rebel, then found that being royal was all she had, will not provoke the scenes that followed the death of Princess Diana in 1997,” the publication reported.
