  • Sony failed to disclose the price of the PS5 at its recent PlayStation 5 digital event
  • A recent Amazon listing revealed that the PS5 might retail between $500 and $700
  • However, a former Xbox executive does not think that the PS5 would retail above $499

The most recent PS5 digital event was amazing to some while other fans found it disappointing. These eager fans were anticipating that, aside from the full design reveal, Sony would unveil the price of the PS5 and its specific release date. While the Japanese gaming console maker is still mum about the price of its upcoming gaming hardware, a former Xbox executive may have an idea of how much it would soon retail.

Comicbook recently picked up a tweet that might give the fandom an idea on the retail price of the PS5. The tweet belongs to Albert Penello, which, according to his LinkedIn account, worked in Xbox Marketing for almost 18 years. The former Xbox exec speculated on the price of the PS5, which might not retail above $499.

Many gaming sites and enthusiasts predicted that Sony Interactive Entertainment might sell the PS5 between $400 and $500. However, doubts about this price range began to increase when an alleged page on Amazon France listed the PS5 between $500 and $700. While Amazon said that it was just a placeholder, many gamers think that the site has already given away the price of Sony's next-generation gaming console.

However, it looks like the former Xbox executive does not agree with this. On his tweet, he said that while he believes in the saying, never say never; he also thinks that there is no way that the PS5 is over $499. In another tweet, Penello said that "also, I can't conceive how Sony would go from pricing it's best generation since PS2 @ $399, to pricing from it's worst generation PS3 @ $599."

Sony is still mum about the price of the PS5, but some enthusiasts believe that the company might be waiting for Microsoft to reveal the price of its next-generation gaming console first. The Japanese gaming giant is reportedly preparing for more PS5 events as the release window of the upcoming console draws close. It is possible that Sony might reveal the price and the specific release date of the PS5 in one of these events.

In 2019, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan announced that the PS5 would arrive sometime in the holiday of 2020.
