Sansa Stark
Sansa Stark is getting married in "Game of Thrones" Season 5, and that's a big change from "A Song of Ice and Fire." HBO

"Game of Thrones" Season 5 continues to provide viewers some interesting developments without much action. Unlike last season, where Joffrey was killed in the second episode, Season 5 has been slower-paced. There have been a few deaths, but the major divergences between the series and George R.R. Martin's novels have defined this season. "Game of Thrones" Season 5, episode 3, "High Sparrow," for example, featured big changes in the storylines of Sansa Stark and Tyrion Lannister.

Warning: Full "Game of Thrones" Season 5 spoilers and "A Song of Ice and Fire" discussion ahead.

Fans who have read Martin's novels were left searching for answers at the end of "High Sparrow." Readers were confident they knew the beats of the Bolton storyline. "Game of Thrones" has already shuffled things around with Ramsay, Reek and Roose. After the Red Wedding in Season 3, Roose Bolton is named the Warden of the North and they soon capture Moat Cailin. Ramsay has already tortured Theon to the point where he is now Reek. That's pretty much where House Bolton is to start Season 5. Roose discusses a new strategy with his son that goes beyond flaying an enemy.

Readers perked up because they figured this was the part where a fake Arya would appear and some sort of sham marriage would take place so Ramsay would be in control of Winterfell. This leads to Jon Snow sending Mance Rayder to Winterfell to rescue Arya and Theon escaping with Jeyne Poole. It looks like things did not quite work out as planned as Ramsay sends Jon a letter saying he captured Mance, killed Stannis and is coming to Castle Black to get his wife and Theon. In a "Winds of Winter" excerpt, Theon is a prisoner of Stannis, who plans to execute him for the murder of Bran and Rickon Stark.

The trailers for "Game of Thrones" Season 5 revealed Sansa in Winterfell, which would have been a pretty big change to the novels. There were plenty of intriguing theories about how Sansa's storyline would play out -- io9 has a good rundown -- and some of them could still happen. It turns out Sansa will take the place of a fake Arya, but that does not mean she won't exact some measure of justice for what the Boltons did to her family. Considering the comments made by Liam Cunningham (Ser Davos) and Sophie Turner (Sansa), the Stark daughter could be paying the Boltons back big time.

Tyrion's storyline has been switched up a bit and took another detour in "High Sparrow." In the novels, Tyrion wandered around for a bit before getting captured by Jorah Mormont. During their travels, Tyrion meets Penny and the trio are soon caught by a group of slavers. While imprisoned, Tyrion manages to escape by arranging an alliance with the Second Sons. Based on leaked set photos, Tyrion is seen at the side of Daenerys while Jorah is in the fighting pit. Chances are the "Game of Thrones" storyline will remain streamlined, but there are some interesting questions about Jon Connington and his crew for readers.
