Queen Margrethe of Denmark celebrated her 76th birthday with her entire family over the weekend. The royal spent her birthday with her husband Prince Henrik, their two sons, Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim, and their respective families. However, her eight grandchildren stole the show on the occasion.

Margrethe and her entire family made an appearance at the balcony of the Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen. The queen looked beautiful in her striking blue gown, which she paired with a matching coat. She accessorized with blue oversized earrings and a matching ring on her hand that showed off her dark manicure.

Margrethe wore deep red lipstick. Her husband color-coordinated in a matching blue shirt paired with gray suit. She was flanked by her grandchildren and waved to the waiting crowd who had gathered to get a glimpse of the family.

The Danish monarch was flanked on both sides by her two eldest grandchildren, Prince Nikolai, 16, and Prince Felix, 13, who are Prince Joachim’s children from his first marriage to Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg. The former couple still continue to share joint custody of their sons. Prince Christian, 10, who is second-in-line to the Danish throne after his father Crown Prince Frederik, stood next to his grandmother.

His sisters, Princess Isabella and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, who have just turned five, also supported their grandmother for her birthday. Besides, Joachim’s two kids along with his present wife Princess Marie were also present, including Prince Henrik, 6, and four-year-old Princess Athena. All the royals took turns to pose on the balcony for family pictures.

Prince Frederik and Princess Mary appeared on the balcony with their four kids to greet the crowd, followed by Joachim and Marie with their two kids and two older sons from his first marriage. Margrethe also posed with her husband Henrik, who stood one step behind to ensure that all attention was on his wife.

The Danish royals rang in the queen’s 75th birthday last year with a week of festivities. A glittering ball was hosted by the royal family, along with ceremonial parades around Copenhagen in honor of Margrethe. She was joined by fellow European royals for her milestone birthday, including Queen Letizia of Spain, Queen Maxima of the Netherlands and Queen Mathilde of Belgium among others.
