KEY POINTS

  • Osa is a two-speed, two-armor attacker with a clear, deployable shield
  • Her deployable shield also doubles as a standard ballistic shield used for pushing positions
  • Osa can pick between the 556XI rifle and the PDW-9 SMG

The “Crystal Guard” update for “Rainbow Six Siege” is set to introduce a slew of new content and changes to the game, including a brand-new attacker with an unorthodox approach to the usual offensive strategies players use in-game.

Anja Katarina “Osa” Jankovic is a two-speed, two-armor attacker who specializes in area denial, intel gathering and roam prevention. Unlike the usual attacker that’s focused on breaching, scouting or clearing rooms, Osa is designed as a quasi-defender whose true value shines during post-plant scenarios.

Osa’s unique gadget is the Talon-8 Clear Shield, which can serve two purposes: it can be used as a traditional ballistic shield similar to Montagne’s or Blitz’s, and it can be used as a deployable piece of cover that can absorb bullets and slow down defenders.

The Talon-8 is roughly the same size as the default deployable cover shields that defenders have access to. However, since the Talon-8 uses transparent bulletproof glass, this gives Osa and her team the benefit of safely monitoring entryways. This can help buy Osa’s team more time for the defuser to fully disable the bomb and win the round.

Osa’s primary weapons include the 556XI assault rifle and the PDW-9 SMG, making her a versatile pick in terms of effective engagement distance if players pick the right gun. The 556XI’s low recoil and slow rate of fire makes it an easy weapon to use in medium ranges. Meanwhile, the fast-firing PDW-9 gives Osa a viable close-range option thanks to the gun’s high rate of fire and manageable recoil patterns.

The PMM pistol serves as Osa’s only secondary weapon choice.

Osa has access to smoke grenades and claymores for her gadget slot, giving her relatively effective breaching potential and a potent anti-roamer tool. Claymores can also be used together with her Talon-8, preventing enemies from jumping over the shield or forcing them to use explosives to destroy the claymore before it destroys them.

This isn’t the first time that “Rainbow Six Siege” introduced an operator whose gadget contradicted their role. Ubisoft introduced Clash as the game’s first defender with a ballistic shield and shortly followed her up with Mozzie, who could hijack enemy drones and use them against their owners.
