A man who was in jail for raping a minor girl has been murdered by the victim's father while the former was out on bail.

The 32-year-old man, identified as Vijay Mer from Rajkot, a city in the western Indian state of Gujarat, was hacked to death Thursday night. He was released on bail just weeks ago. Police arrested the victim's father, who remains unidentified, and his friend, Dinesh Rangpapa, for murdering Mer after the latter's brother filed a complaint against the duo. The incident was caught on CCTV and the footage was shared on social media, The Times of India reported.

Mer eloped with the girl in October 2020. The minor's father filed a petition in court after the girl went missing and police traced the couple from Juangadh, a city around 60 miles from Rajkot, in March this year. Following this, Mer was arrested and booked into jail on charges of raping a minor.

After being released on bail, the man reportedly called up the girl's father and threatened to elope with his daughter again. The minor's father was agitated and reportedly decided to kill him.

"Ever since he was released on bail, he would call up the girl's father and threaten to elope with his daughter. The girl's father had vowed not to cut his hair till he killed Mer," police said.

The video footage of the incident showed the suspects attacking Mer with some sharp-edged weapons and hitting him constantly while he was sitting near his house. He had more than a dozen wounds on his body, Latest LY reported.

In June, a man in India was arrested after he allegedly murdered a woman who accused him of raping her. The man, identified as Netram from the Indian state of Rajasthan, was accused of stabbing the woman to death while he was out on bail. He was also accused of injuring the woman's younger sister who tried to defend the victim during the attack.
