  • Real Madrid are ready to spend $188m to sign Sadio Mane
  • Liverpool are determined to see off Real this summer
  • Real last year had approached Liverpool for Mohamed Salah

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is reportedly determined to bring Liverpool FC superstar Sadio Mane on board in the upcoming summer transfer window.

It is understood that Real chief Zizou is also a huge fan of the Senegal striker, which is why the Anfield side is expecting Real to approach them soon. According to news reports, Real are willing to splash $188 million to seal the move, which could be ideal for Liverpool who have been wanting to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe and have not been able to because of his high transfer fee.

Mane, who is the second-highest goal-scorer for Liverpool this season with 18 goals under his belt in 14 matches across competitions, signed a new contract just 18 months ago. The new deal, which is worthy of close to $200,000-a-week, is designed to keep him with the Reds until 2023. According to The Sun, Mane’s representatives have already been approached for informal talks on a possible move to Spain.

While Mane has never expressed a desire to leave Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool, the English club will be determined to see off Real just like they did last year when the La Liga side came knocking their doors for Mohamed Salah.

If Mane eventually decides to make the switch from Premier League to La Liga, Klopp could use the amount to buy Mbappe, who is being considered as an ideal replacement for Mane in Anfield.

If Liverpool get $188m for Mane, they will still have to add approximately $125m more to seal the deal with PSG for the French talent. Last December, Klopp made it clear that there was “absolutely no chance” that Liverpool could afford the World Cup winner forward.

However, that statement had come before Liverpool bagged Nike as their new kit sponsors. The Merseyside club is expected to earn at least $125m with the American brand. Klopp and Co announced a record turnover of $670m in February with profits of almost $52m.

In order to sign Mbappe, apart from the transfer fee, Liverpool need to look for a way to pay Mbappe wages of almost $500,00-a-week and one of the ways could be persuading Nike to fund a part of Mbappe’s salary to help in retaining Anfield’s wage structure.
