KEY POINTS

  • Real Madrid officially introduced Eduardo Camavinga as the club's new No. 25
  • Camavinga is confident he is well prepared for bigger challenges
  • Florentino Perez is pleased with the teenager's decision to join the club

Real Madrid’s newest signing is already brimming with confidence ahead of his highly-anticipated debut.

Eduardo Camavinga has been presented to the media as a Real Madrid player for the first time.

The teenage prodigy is very pleased to have joined the legendary club and is already looking forward to a great maiden season with Los Blancos.

“I’m very happy to be here [at Real Madrid],” Camavinga said during his speech. “I’m very proud to come and defend this badge. I want to thank the president and all my family. If anybody had told me a few years ago that I’d be here then I wouldn’t have believed them. Hala Madrid!”

“The main factor for this decision wasn’t money,” he added. “It was to complete a dream I’d had since I was a child. I wanted to play with the great players here, who’ll teach me a lot. I didn’t think twice when it came up and I’m very happy. I’ll give my all for this club.”

At a press conference held moments after the ceremony, Camavinga--who will wear the No. 25 shirt--was quizzed to address more interesting matters, including how he will be able to fit in and what position he’ll be playing for.

According to Camavinga, he doesn’t see himself experiencing difficulties adapting. In fact, he even stressed that it may not take too long before he becomes a key figure at Real Madrid.

“I’m young and I might need time to adapt. Or maybe not,” the midfielder assessed. “We’ll have to see. Either way, I feel well prepared. I am here to learn. I will need to demonstrate to the coach that I’m prepared. So, I’ll work very hard to earn minutes and will then try to enjoy that playing time.”

“I am often asked about my position,” he continued. “I don’t like to compare myself to other players. I like to play in front of the defence, but I can also play further forward. I’m ready to adapt and learn about all the positions. Wherever the coach puts me, I’ll play there and give my all.”

Prior to signing with Real Madrid, Camavinga was linked to a wide array of big-name clubs.

However, Los Blancos president Florentino Perez insisted that the youngster chose to “defend” his club’s badge.

“Even at 18 years of age, he (Camavinga) was wanted by several of Europe’s biggest clubs,” Perez said in his speech. “Camavinga wanted to defend this badge. We have known about his great qualities since two years ago, despite his young age. That’s why we’re all here to welcome Eduardo Camavinga as a Real Madrid player.”
