Regis Philbin's cause of death has been revealed.

An official from the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Farmington, CT, revealed to Page Six on Wednesday that Philbin died from a heart attack due to coronary artery disease and hypertension.

Philbin died on July 24 at the age of 88. His family released a statement the following day to inform his fans that he already passed away.

"We are deeply saddened to share that our beloved Regis Philbin passed away last night of natural causes, one month shy of his 89th birthday," Philbin's family wrote.

"His family and friends are forever grateful for the time we got to spend with him — for his warmth, his legendary sense of humor, and his singular ability to make every day into something worth talking about," the family’s statement continued.

"We thank his fans and admirers for their incredible support over his 60-year career and ask for privacy as we mourn his loss."

According to NY Daily News, the Guinness Book of World Records acknowledged the TV personality for having spent "the most hours on television" of anyone in the United States.

Kathie Lee Gifford worked with Philbin from 1985 to 2000 on "Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee." According to the TV presenter, she last saw Philbin two weeks before his demise. During their last meeting, she admitted that she "sensed much more fragility than I'd seen in him the last time in January out in Los Angeles."

Gifford said she was in Tennessee, so she called Philbin and his wife, Joy, for a get together. She invited them for lunch and they came over. However, when the Philbins left, Gifford felt that her former co-host was very fragile already.

"We just had the best time," Gifford recalled.

"I just thought to myself, ‘Lord, is that the last time I’m going to see my friend?’ Cause he was failing, I could tell.”

Gifford was grateful that she still had the chance to see Philbin before he passed away. Gifford visited Joy on Sunday and said they "reminisced for a little while."

"I was just grateful to have the time with them, comfort them a little bit, let them know that I believe with all my heart that I know where Regis is and I know who he’s with cause I had many, many conversations with him over the years about faith, and about where we go when this life is over, and he was very curious, as always," she said.
