Reign CW
Lord Darnley (Will Kemp) must prove his loyalty to Mary (Adelaide Kane) before she can marry him in “Reign” Season 4, episode 5. Ben Mark Holzberg/The CW

“Reign” is finally back after a short two-week break. Last time we saw The CW series, Lord Darnley (Will Kemp) arrived in Scotland to court Mary, Queen of Scots (Adelaide Kane). Her marriage to Darnley will not only cement her rule in her country, but it will also give her a good chance of taking her cousin Queen Elizabeth’s (Rachel Skarsten) throne.

In Season 4, episode 5, Darnley will be forced to prove his worth and loyalty to Mary in order for her to agree to marry him, according to the synopsis on TVGuide. He needs to demonstrate his loyalty when she voices her concerns about his true intentions.

The promo of the upcoming episode, titled “Highland Games,” shows Mary’s half-brother James (Dan Jeannotte) airing his and the noble’s concerns about Darnley. After all, they don’t know who he is.

Indeed, a number of Scottish royals air their apprehensions about Mary’s fiancé to him. “How are we to believe you won’t side with Elizabeth to save your own skin?” on royal questions Darnley. However, he is quick to retort to such concerns. “I cannot allow you to dishonor my name or my character,” Henry Stuart replies.

Darnley tries very hard to get Mary, James and the nobles to trust him. He even gets into a bloody hand-to-hand combat to prove his worth to everyone in Scotland.

Of course, history tells us that Darnley does wed the Queen of Scots and becomes the King consort of Scotland. However, his marriage to the fiery monarch is an unhappy one.

Meanwhile, in France, Catherine (Megan Follows) and Narcisse (Craig Parker) will work together to squash rumors about King Charles’ (Spencer MacPherson) strange behavior. These rumors threaten his reign.

“Reign” Season 4, episode 5 airs Friday, March 17 at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
