“Rick and Morty” Season 4, episode 6 is more likely to be delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The last episode of “Rick and Morty” Season 4 aired in December. Following its mid-season break, fans have been waiting as to when the producers will drop episode 6, but there has been no update about the show for over three months already.

There are rumors that “Rick and Morty” Season 4, episode 6 might be further delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Inverse agreed in its recent report with this speculation about the Adult Swim science fiction show stating, “It seems increasingly more likely that Episode 6 might be delayed.”

One of the show’s directors, Erica Hayes, told Inverse that most of the show’s department has access to the same technological resources at home, so they can work remotely. However, producing a complex animated series like “Rick and Morty” takes time.

Hayes told the publication that a single episode takes anywhere between 9 and 12 months to create from ideation to completion. Thus, patience is vital for fans who want to watch the next episode. This is understandable since making an Emmy Award-winning animated series is not easy and rushing it would only result in sub-par episodes.

“Rick and Morty” won the 2018 Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program. The show has also won the Critics’ Choice Television Awards for Best Animated Series and Shorty Award for Best TV Show in the same year.

Spencer Grammer, who voices Summer Smith, revealed one of the possible reasons for the delay. According to her, the storyline often changes.

“And also, storylines change a lot. If a storyline isn’t working, audibly, they’ll go back and re-write and [sometimes] change the whole episode,” she told Collider. “There’s one episode we recorded a lot of times. A lot, a lot of times. If Summer hasn’t had a Dan Harmon pass yet, then usually, Summer’s character will be a little bit different, if it feels like Summer doesn’t have as much of an intention as she normally does. So, those things happen too, but very rarely. Mostly we’re just making the story better and I get more lines.”

“Rick and Morty” fans have been begging Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland for more episodes while they are on quarantine. Although there is no definite date when episode 6 will be available, Adult Swim promised that the series will return within the year.
