Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry is out with an ominous new campaign ad that resembles a trailer for a post-apocalyptic movie in which Barack Obama's policies have transformed America into a barren wasteland.

POLITICO points out that the new spot was created by Lucas Baiano, who was formerly employed by Tim Pawlenty's campaign. Slate's David Weigel referred to the then 22-year-old Baiano as Tim Pawlenty's Spielberg, and the new campaign spot -- imbued with a cinematic feel, dramatic tone and epic soundtrack usually confined to the big screen -- reveals why.
