“Riverdale” Season 2 won’t premiere until October, but the entire cast is already hard at work on set.

Over the weekend, Twitter user Archie Comics revealed that cast members KJ Apa, Cole Sprouse, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Madelaine Petsch, Marisol Nichols, Skeet Ulrich, Madchen Amick and more have already finished shooting Season 2, episode 1. The user also indirectly confirmed that Season 2 will have a total of 22 episodes, unlike Season 1 that only had 13.

Last season, “Riverdale” became one of the most successful new shows on The CW. Week after week, the series’ ratings had been consistent. Even though there were some instances wherein the ratings dropped a bit, overall “Riverdale” Season 1 was still a wonderful addition to the network’s fall programming.

Meanwhile, the 22-episodes for “Riverdale” Season 2 guarantees that there will be more storylines explored in the show. One of these storylines has to do with Archie’s (Apa) dad, Fred (Luke Perry), who was shot in the final moments of last season’s finale.

While speaking with TV Line, Apa confirmed that fans will see a much darker Archie in the future installments. “The death of Fred is still unclear, but either way, it’s going to change Archie’s life forever. We’re going to see a darker side to him,” he said.

“Riverdale” executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa also told Vulture that Fred’s shooting will leave a huge impact on Archie, especially since it’s only been the two of them for the longest time. “This is a huge impact for Archie, obviously. What happened to Fred is like Bruce Wayne seeing his parents gunned down in Crime Alley in Gotham City. It completely changes him and it galvanizes him and gives him purpose,” he said.

Other than Archie and Fred, Betty (Reinhart) and Jughead’s (Sprouse) relationship will also be the focus of Season 2. The two characters will struggle to keep things afloat now that Jughead has become a member of the Southside Serpents. There are also rumors suggesting that a new character named Toni Topaz will get in between the couple.

“Riverdale” Season 2 will premiere on The CW on Oct. 11 at 9 p.m. EST.
